Overview

GMS GPs with a panel of 100+ patients are entitled to claim a Practice Support Subsidy towards the employment of practice staff.

The subsidy may be claimed for:

• Practice nurse

• Practice administrator

• Practice manager (partnerships only, subject to the rules below)

The Practice Manager subsidy is not available to single-handed GPs.

A partnership or co-operative of GPs working from a single location may claim a Practice Manager subsidy only where they are not maximising their nursing subsidy.

How the Subsidy Is Calculated

The calculation of Practice Support Subsidy is based on the following factors:

• Average weighted panel size

• Relevant experience of the nurse or practice administrator

• Employer PRSI rate

• Number of hours worked
