GPPA Practice Leadership Summit 2023

Allies combine or unite resources with each other for mutual benefit. This is what we are all about at GP Practice Ally, combining the collective wisdom in the community to navigate change and sharing practical resources that benefit everyone.

The purpose of the GPPA Summit is to highlight the vital role of the practice manager in the future of General Practice in Ireland and to strengthen the bonds of connection within the community. At GP Practice Ally, we put our community at the heart of everything we do because we believe that we all thrive through connection, collaboration and support. We believe in arming people with practical tools and support so that they can build trust in their own judgement, skills and capacity to impact change.

The theme of the 2023 summit was:

Navigating Change: Practical Solutions for Practice Management

The summit featured insights from experienced practice managers and industry leaders including Medisec, Clanwilliam, MedAccount, Promed and Jones Business Systems, so that we as a community could develop practical solutions to practice challenges together. We discussed the development of the practice management role, the importance of sustainable practice leadership, protecting IT systems and data, planning for succession and change, managing stress and boosting morale and the future of technology in healthcare.

We also had engaging, interactive workshops to provide guidance and share tips on the effective management of CDM programmes, managing patient conflict and complaints, navigating challenging conversations with staff, implementing system and process improvement and getting the most out practice systems.

The summit took place from 09.30am-5pm on Friday 20th and 9.30am-14.30pm on Saturday 21st. We also hosted a gala dinner in the hotel featuring an excellent live band to let our hair down and have some fun too!

'What was your highlight of the summit/what did you find most valuable?'

I felt the pace was very good and the interactions from the audience were informative. The presentations were topical and appropriate and delivered really well.
