GMS GPs may claim financial supports towards the employment of practice staff. These supports are paid through PCRS and operate under two separate schemes.

The schemes covered in this section are:

Practice Support Subsidy

A contribution towards the cost of employing practice staff - admins, nurses and managers. This subsidy is calculated based on weighted panel size, relevant experience, hours worked and employer PRSI.

Practice Grant Support (PGS)

A separate, recurring annual grant introduced under the 2023 GP Agreement. This grant supports staff (admins, nurses and managers) recruited, or additional hours created, after 1 July 2023. It also includes the General Practice Assistant (GPA) role.

Each scheme has different eligibility criteria, calculation methods and claiming rules. They are calculated and claimed separately.
