Dispensing GPs
In order for a GP to become a Dispensing GP no pharmacy must be located within 3 miles (4.3kms) of the GPs practice premises and the GP adheres to the following:
Dispensing arrangements and procedures must be wholly computerised providing greater efficiency, effectiveness and accountability. GPs will be required to input the details of each dispensing through the PCRS GP Application Suite.
A Dispensing GP must ensure that they dispense, in any calendar year, a minimum of 70% of the items prescribed for patients on their dispensing panel. Where a Dispensing GP fails to meet the required level they will be formally advised and should the practitioner fail to achieve the minimum 70% dispensing/prescribing level in three successive years they will no longer retain a dispensing status.
In respect of drugs/medicines dispensing a Dispensing GP is required to comply with HSE Dispensing Guidelines.
Dispensing GPs are required to obtain third party signature in respect of all drugs/medicines provided to eligible dispensing patients.
